Helen Hughes
Helen Hughes is best known for abstract art, displaying a strong focus on mid century block colour. She works mainly with acrylic on large scale canvas. Her collections exhibit contemporary bold simplicity. Inspiration comes from traditional landscapes, buildings and interesting linear surroundings. Her modern approach explores the beauty of colour, line, shape, space and form. An appreciation for European art had been instilled early on in Hughes' career, "Living and working in Luxembourg for many years, opened my eyes to some exciting new European movements. Things were really changing. You had the fall of communism a few years earlier and a fresh new optimism was coming through. It was a really exciting time". After a busy period heading up the Art & Design department of an International School in Luxembourg, Helen took the leap to immerse herself into painting full time and focus on her own art. Helen works out of a studio in the Isle of Man.
